THE REVIEW

Objectively and subjectively, this is an album (I'm referring to the promotional copy of "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N." circulated among industry insiders) unjudgeable.

Not because the musical value of the work is such (I don't know this and couldn't understand it), but because a violent and devastating forceful action has been taken on what the album originally was. And, for once (which further aggravates the situation significantly), it must be acknowledged that it’s a shared responsibility requiring several charges against the "wrongdoers", who in this case are the record label (namely AFM Records), but also the songwriters themselves, the Destruction (who in doing so - among other things - celebrate their 25 years of career in the best possible way...; it seems that in a quarter of a century they haven't understood anything, wanting to estrange themselves from the sonic context).

And the reason is quickly explained: eight out of a total of ten tracks have been marred with the now famous (for those accustomed to working with promos) "voice-overs". The amusing, or rather scandalous, part of the entire affair is that said "voice-overs", suggested by the label, are the vocal work of the band members themselves, who from time to time remind you what you are listening to, have the audacity to say "enjoy" (!!!???!!!), invite you to buy the album (we’re reaching insane levels of perversion), and try to treat you amicably using terms like "metalhead", "thrashers" or "headbangers" and so on.

And the music (specifically the thrash metal)? Evidently optional. For all this, there is only one expression (wanting to remain within the bounds of civil manners): shame on you!

Summary by Bot

This review criticizes the promotional version of Destruction's album D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N. due to intrusive voice-overs layered over most tracks. The reviewer blames both the record label AFM Records and the band for this misguided choice, which diminishes the musical experience. Despite the band celebrating 25 years of their thrash metal career, this promo fails to deliver properly. The music itself becomes secondary to the distracting commentary.

01   Devolution ()

D.Evolution
Confusion, Last Solution
-Our mighty technology obscures our decay
step by step, fuckin' regret
-Our modern economy is not meant to stay

Once I believed - in progress
Once I Had dreams - and sucess
My state - your home - our base of life
dead and burried in the stillborn ego
Of our inner strife

Chorus:
D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.
World is out of hand
D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.

D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.
We're buried in the sand

Disollusion, of a system
- That does accelerate
It's own disarray
The Theory, of Evolution
-Just a note in the book
Of Human Decay

For This unholy cash machine

Destruction

Destruction are a German thrash metal band from Lörrach, commonly cited (alongside Sodom and Kreator) as part of the core German/Teutonic thrash triad. The band is strongly associated with bassist/vocalist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer and guitarist Mike Sifringer, and is known for aggressive, direct thrash and a notably abrasive vocal style.

We are drawn into a vortex of violence and power that is interrupted only by a fantastic solo from the special guest, Vinnie Moore of UFO.

An album that perhaps we needed, adding to the very good return of Testament.
