"Daytime Sleepwalkers" is a hypnotic work, capable of transporting listeners back to the golden years of the new-wave generation, those '70/'80s when most bands always had something special to express. The Design are not a "newcomer" group but rather mature musicians who were probably the first to appreciate this trend initially as fans and later as authors themselves. This is easily noticeable from the way the album is structured, filled with an abundant yet not abused use of synths over a very varied rhythmic backdrop, all followed closely by guitars that give the right contribution to the cause. If I had to choose, I would say this quartet took inspiration especially from the UK scene, with that style and attitude that ranges between romantic and subtly "sensual," leaving the voice the task of adding even more pathos to the tracks. Within the tracklist, there are some standout tracks like "Shy Dancer" and especially "Love=Fiction," tracks that are musically varied and elegant in form. This "Daytime Sleepwalkers" is a work with strong dark hues, which should be recommended mainly to an audience accustomed to digesting this type of music and that has little to envy from the sector productions that the new British wave offers us today.
