THE REVIEW

It is known that the Descendents loved to "loaf around," they made it their style, goofing around and making fun of themselves. While I generally enjoy works taken a bit lightly, this album just doesn't manage to captivate me. Maybe it's due to past lineup changes, or perhaps because they are seized by the urge to vary a bit the stereotypes of the hardcore melodic of the moment, the Descendents (a band I admire, by the way) produce this record that kind of sucks... The cover pretty much hinted at it.

Starting with an almost punk-jazz approach (apologies for daring to use this adjective), the album continues touching so many keys that it becomes hard to digest. Weak and sluggish except for a few tracks like "Hurtin' Crue," for the rest I hear a good dose of hastily composed ideas, the entire album plays and finishes without "tickling my fancy."

"Wendy" is nice but a bit too sweet for my taste, "Sour Grapes" and "Green" manage to draw attention but it's stuff already heard and reheard, not good. I can only speak well of "80's Girls," a song with a nice atmosphere, without exaggerating I think it's the best track on the album.

There’s an All-style that’s much more apparent than the Descendents, tracks with absurd rhythms, quirky arrangements full of furious, fast, and unpredictable guitar licks, with this I can safely say I liked them better in the beginning when as naive and misfit teenagers they sought less sophistication and conveyed more.

The album's main attraction is the back, where instead of listing the track names of side A and side B, we find "toilet" nicknames written. To those in the know, a few words suffice, skip this album.

Summary by Bot

This review critiques Descendents' album Enjoy! for its lack of cohesion and weak songwriting. While a few tracks like "80's Girls" stand out, the album overall feels unfocused and less energetic than earlier works. The reviewer appreciates the band but feels this album fails to deliver the charm of their earlier punk style. Experimentation with punk-jazz and varied approaches dilutes the album's impact.
