The hidden power of these squalid celluloid operettas: celebrating the alleged virtues of a decadent microcosm, aesthetically ugly and intellectually enfeebled, without realizing that they are simultaneously painting an analyzable portrait of this filthy, cultured, and parasitic bourgeoisie.

A monstrous and creepy circle of ex-68ers teachers and professors, well-off, vicious, slaves to their baseness, and chanting nonsense about "civil rights" (on this note, hear what the protagonist babbles about "l'arcipelago gualg"). People who have been fake from birth. Trotskyists and libertarians in the '60s and '70s, social democrats in the '80s and '90s, and with the dawn of the new millennium, now victims of a terrible self-referential intellectualism devoid of any irony.

Free sex, rights of the usual and boring minorities, protection of the demobourgeois culture, even sheltered by the leftist and secular "State," plus a lot of nonsense that would normally make you fall asleep or crap. Anyway, without mincing words.

And when illness and pain come? Not even the courage to follow in the footsteps of their "right-wing" counterparts (think, with all the horror the case requires, of Hitler) but rather resorting to the number one weapon that capitalism provides: heroin. The old sick teacher, a classic representative of the "left" pantywaists, asks the drug-addicted daughter of his colleague-lover (and it figures there wouldn't be a messed-up girl with a libertine mom!) to get him some "stuff."

In this sense, Trainspotting is much less vulgar and miseducating.

To quote someone who understands Marxism: <<The left is now worse than the right.>> But it's not just Prof. Gianfranco La Grassa, great scholar of Althusser, who thinks so. After all, an Iron Maiden record causes much less political and cultural damage than a lousy "branded" Offlaga Disco Pax.

Let's destroy the left if we are true communists. But to destroy it, first of all, it is good to know it. And crappy films like this, as disgusting as they are, offer a tragically realistic glimpse of this anti-popular "left."
