The beauty of writing something just for oneself... And indeed, I must confess that this album, to me, who am not Dente, upon the first listen, many years ago, was terrible. Trite and monotonous. Then suddenly, about a year ago, a younger colleague says to me: "Have you ever listened to Dente? I recommend him." Why not, I give him another chance. Alternatively, I'd have to listen to the latest by Modà, which another colleague just recommended... Since then, dear friends, Dente has become one of my favorites, if not the favorite, Italian singer-songwriter of the latest generation. The reason? This album, which I obviously listened to again with much more attention, and consequently appreciated. “Yes, but in detail?” The lyrics of the songs (and their titles), much more meaningful, cultured, and above all intelligent, than those of Modà. Here are some examples made of poetic images, wordplay, innuendos, and much more: "...I have the box of memories that floods over...", "...Please come back, please come back, please come back (x 7 times), ... from where you came (Song of Non-love). "What beautiful eyes you have (note: with a clear reference to the wolf), I wonder how well you see me (note: with a clear reference to a courting practice) ..." (Baby Building). "Irene is very beautiful, her shoulders are smaller than her eyes (note: which is a very poetic and non-trivial way to say that the girl has splendid eyes, as obviously the eyes are very large, like those of a fawn, and not the shoulders being very small, like those of a hamster …)” (The Presumed Blindness of Irene). "And one day with white hair she will have very tired eyes, smelling the scents of May Irene will think (note: a clear quotation from “When You Are Old” by W.B. Yeats) (The Presumed Blindness of Irene). "You say you're waiting for me sitting on a note, but while I heard it you came down” (August 28). “Sorry for the kisses I gave you,..,” “Sorry if I didn't kiss you sometimes forgive me”, “Sorry for the thousand times I touched you”,…,”Forgive me when it happened that I didn't touch you”(note: In short, forgive me for everything and the opposite of everything, as sometimes should be done with women, hoping that one apology might work…) (Chiedo). "And what do you say about the music?" Nothing revolutionary, guitar and voice (very peculiar..) and little else, just very sweet when needed (as in “Stella”, “Chiedo”, and “August 28”) and always fitting the words. In short, in my opinion, Dente is above all a great mind (Manuel Agnelli thinks so too) and "Non c'è due senza te" (a title heavily borrowed and copied recently in various circles) is a great album. Merry Christmas to everyone.
