My sentimental life lately is a torment... shattered dreams that penetrate my meninges like soft and sharp fragments, sulfurous and delicate, almost tiptoeing and tearing me apart from within...the night is the lie of lovers and shamelessly deceives dreams...I toss and turn in bed and know there will be nothing but the memory and the more time passes the more it marks the pace and tires, wears out, corners... like a boxer, time, which is said to be a gentleman, with its gloves padded with wisdom, works on you in the dark of the ring with well-placed blows that little by little take your breath away...until leaving you with nothing but your saliva soaked in your blood sold cheaply...you wake up in the morning and then the first thing you look for is something that resembles you and takes you from within to counter everything, every murderous momentum, every weapon, every small gaping and lucid laceration of pain... so you listen to this "Mute" and realize that there is someone in the world thinking of you, who perhaps is living your same emotions and is creating sweet poetry around them... ...and then it seems as if you are in the midst of nowhere facing the silence of a fjord or facing a cliff with that wind screaming in your ears and disheveling you...the ideal sound carpet for dreaming, continuing to do so despite the strong emotions that shock and disturb and leave you alone...music that you have felt inside all your life and that wraps you to unsettle you and touches you deeply in a sincere and disarming way... much of the poetry of Porcupine Tree is steeped in this solo project by the transalpine Nicolas Chapel, a multi-instrumentalist who has recently arrived at the second meeting... it's no coincidence that Steve Wilson wanted Nicolas Chapel as support on some dates of his 2009 tour...

The impression you get while listening to it is precisely of being immersed in the sweet depths of a meadow staring at the clouds playing tag while the poetry within these enjoyable album compositions opens familiar gaps to cradle you and render you ethereal and soft like a feather that is inevitably tossed by some sudden gust of wind while desperately trying to reach the ground, to perch on some lost corner of happiness. A sound carpet where strings and orchestrations blend delicately with sometimes suffocating and heavy rhythmic and guitar lines, sometimes with dreamy accompaniments imbued with sincere emotion and atmosphere... an intimate weave of  blinding lucidity  devoid of that empty and cloying stylistic rhetoric that often removes momentum and vitality.... "Mute" is the silence of your heart destroyed by every dream ready to erase you and erase itself under the gusts of wind of the very emotions it carries and that you live, music that flows from the heart always direct like an inexorable and sweet blade.

Impossible to express in words the sweetness and taste in the research and selection of arrangements sometimes of Tool-esque memory as in Swing of the Airways, sometimes prickly and sharp like the thorny and stinging shock of "Feel Alive", sometimes Middle Eastern-like in the heavy crescendo of "Overhead", the monstrously rock-bravado that emerges impetuously in "Tidal", the soft elegance of "Porcelain" that almost tiptoes on your sadness to ride it with the subsequent dream-like delicacy of "Black Over Gold", then a devastating electric shock stabs the knife into your fresh and defenseless flesh with the dark bone-crushing riff and the delirious monotone piano of "Rainbow Muse", before giving way to the mighty and heartbreaking, claustrophobic and desperate, swirling and lacerating sonic progression of "Hesitation Waltz" and the depressed and  solitary whisper of "Falling From the Sun (Falling for the sunrise glowing on your face/In one last glance/For one caress/In one last breath/But now please turn off the light/Would you)"

Maybe I found what I was looking for...

Surely for a long time I'll still be like that feather that can't reach the ground but you know what I say? I think I'll let myself be accompanied by this music while I slowly try to touch inside...

See Ya from the revived Fenni!!!
