Many of the characteristics I look for in independent records, especially from very young people, I found in this debut work by the Pesaro/Fano band Del Norte.
The trio presents a very fresh, intelligent but also clever and determined EP, largely indebted to the '90s of the less noisy Sonic Youth, the less chaotic but quite anxious Dinosaur Jr and Motorpsycho, the Smashing Pumpkins, and who knows who else, but with a lot of taste and personality.
The disc flows beautifully, 6 tracks of great enjoyment with at least 3 singles that make you scream and zero, I repeat zero, fillers; it's like listening to a live performance, as if you connect the instruments in the rehearsal room, press "rec" on the recorder and let go, without thinking too much.
I can't wait to hear them after 10 years, when they will be less boys and more men and will tackle this genre with the right maturity.
In my head, only one word echoes: dare, dare, dare.
Dare with other instruments, dare with arrangements, dare with song duration, dare with melodies, don't stop at the song that works as a trio (not that there's anything wrong with it, for heaven's sake), but go beyond, there's both fabric and need.
You have to start somewhere, but doing it with bombs like "Chun-Li," "Pa Pa Pa," and the beautiful "Faceless" is no small feat.
