Shocking.
I have no other words to define this live performance, captured on VHS.
Deine Lakaien are a German gothic-darkwave band consisting of vocalist Alexander Veljanov and pianist Ernst Horn.
At first I was a bit prejudiced against this performance, because I already didn't like the little I knew about the group, let alone an acoustic performance!!!
It was like shooting at the Red Cross for me, but I was wrong!!
I have never seen a concert like this. An hour and a little more where I remained tense on the wire of emotion, which shocked me.
Voice and piano rise and fall, they unite and divide, they make you rejoice and cry, and you won't believe you're only listening to voice and piano.
From "Love me to the end" to "Resurrection machine" passing through "Lonely," "Nobody's wounded," "Walk to the moon," "2nd sun," "Follow me," these fifteen songs are a journey into the soulful and tormented soul of Alexander, an extraordinary man who interprets fragile, sentimental, romantic, true music. Gothic certainly, but not the kind that talks about vampires and cemeteries, but rather tells how love (and life) can be seen through the eyes of poetry and sensitivity.
I own more than two hundred concert DVDs, and although you may not believe me, this unknown group surpasses them all in intensity and emotion. Of course, if for you gothic is just a lullaby and nothing more, it won't shock you, also because the songs, given the type of instrumentation, may seem similar. But considering their beauty, this is not a flaw but a point in their favor.
I don't know if a DVD version has been released, but I found the concert on YouTube so go for it! What are you waiting for? Download it now! You won't regret it, rest assured.
Shocking, as I said at the beginning.
