Fabrizio De André
The oldness. more
Tim Hardin
Great unfinished talent. Notable are "Tim Hardin 2" and "Tim Hardin 3 Live in Concert," enveloped in a subtly jazzy folk that will inspire a certain Tim Buckley. A sorrowful decline will follow them. more
Testament -Practice What You Preach
Another excellent thrash/heavy episode from Testament. Chuck Billy is extraordinary as always. Testament blend the typical aggressiveness of thrash with the melody of British heavy metal. The result is an intriguing and captivating album, perhaps not fully appreciated by many of their fans. For me, it's slightly below the previous two (especially "The Legacy"), but still another hit, and a consecutive one at that. The title track is beautiful. (7.5) more
Caravan -In the Land of Grey and Pink
Let’s dust off some mold. Sweet progressive-pop from the Canterbury school. I was listening to it again today. Even though it’s not among my favorites... great album! more
Cirith Ungol -King of the Dead
Dare... venture forth... and may your souls return from the grim paths of Hades... more
Claudio Rocchi -Volo magico n. 1
A tremendous album of folk oriental-psychadelic music, a milestone for the Italian scene due to its uniqueness. The super cool dadaist title suite (very close to "Aria" by Sorrenti, from which it explicitly draws) features a very tight final solo, "Giusto Amore," a beautiful tribal and mystical dance, "Tutto Quello che Ho da Dire," and "La Realtà non Esiste," two poems for voice and piano. more
Roberto Vecchioni
A weary bandit, convinced he no longer belongs to a present that wears him down. But no matter how excluded he feels from today’s life, his past has destined him for the eternal Olympus of Italian singer-songwriter tradition. more
Immortal -At The Heart Of Winter
The sharpest and most reasoned of the band. Epicness and extremism shape this Nordic and dark milestone. more
Comus
"First Utterance," or one of the most insane, visionary, and brilliant records in history. Folk possessed by a demonic sabbath. more
Testament -The New Order
Another great record, even if for me it's a step back compared to the previous one. More melodic solutions, some touches of heavy, and the usual great compositional quality. (8) more
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds -The firstborn is dead
One of the greatest masterpieces of all time. Perhaps the best by Nick Cave, with the Bad Seeds in exceptional form. more
Claudio Rocchi -Volo Magico N.1
A great masterpiece. more
Black Sabbath
How can you not give 5 to one of the most important and influential bands in history??? more
Thin White Rope -Sack Full Of Silver
Guy Kyser's band kicks off the nineties as it concluded the previous decade: in spectacular fashion. An album, the fourth in the studio, featuring songs written during travels to concerts; and for the first time, everyone participates in the songwriting. The country-roots vein, already well established in the group, is accentuated by that masterful psychedelic impact that is always abundantly present. The sultry and hypnotic cover of Can's "Yoo Doo Right" is the highlight of the album...HIDDEN LANDS... more
Pixies
...WOW...I haven’t defined the Pixies yet! I wonder what my friend madcat will think about this! I’ll just say this: nobody back in the days of their first records played with such crazily distorted and messy sounds, yet melodically perfect...FUTURISTIC PROPHETS...This is the Planet of Sound!!!!!!!! more
Testament -The Legacy
Explosive debut for the Californian band. A classic thrash album, although Testament, compared to others, has a more unique, epic approach, with melodic solutions that vaguely reminded me of the Iron Maiden of "Powerslave." A tremendous performance by Chuck Billy behind the microphone. One of the cornerstone albums of thrash in the second half of the '80s. (8.5) more
Eagles
The best American band! more
Thin White Rope -The One That Got Away
Registered in Belgium? All nonsense... we are right on the border between Arizona and Nevada, in a joint on the dusty desert road, frequented by truckers and shady characters, where the lightest drink is a double bourbon and there's the smell of piss coming from the restrooms... AMAZING live... more
Pierangelo Bertoli
A discography filled with anger and emotions. "Pescatore" has become part of history, "A muso duro" is the virtue of historical songwriting, and "L'italia d'oro" is still damn relevant! Don't let this extraordinary storyteller fade into oblivion. more
