Marina Rei
Two categories no longer intersect at a certain point: the meteors that are worth nothing, and those that are valuable but don’t tarnish their reputation. Well, Marina belongs to the second category. more

Kings of Leon
Thin, bloody with flashes of "wave." I've appreciated them over time.
Of the "arena band" story (they are less of a loser than the Coldplay), I couldn’t care less. I listen to them without prejudice, even if it’s late, but I think that's a good thing.
The more I listen to them in 2022, the more I like them. more
Paolo Conte
His music makes you dream and transports your mind to Paris, New Orleans, Africa, South America, some remote island, and even to past eras: fantastic and exquisitely refined. His lyrics are almost never "political," but they fit perfectly with his music. more
Franco Battiato
He has ranged across the most diverse musical genres (experimental, pop, rock, opera, soundtracks, etc.) and his lyrics have also been very varied (cultured, ironic, nonsensical, romantic, etc.), always maintaining very high standards. He has been both highly commercial and extremely elitist. Without a doubt, originality has never been lacking in him. more
Francesco Guccini
On the lyrical level, perhaps only De Andrè (in Italy) surpasses him, even if his songs are longer and more narrative compared to the much more concise ones of De Andrè. Musically, he has improved significantly since the album Signora Bovary (87), especially thanks to the "new" collaborators (Bandini, Marangolo, Tavolazzi, etc.). Of course, you can’t expect rock or punk from Guccini, but nonetheless, the music is elegant and refined. What has always fascinated me about him is his consistency as a singer-songwriter (perhaps even too much) and his resistance to any fashion or trend. He will have his flaws, as many say, but that's better: how boring is a perfect person without flaws? more
Francesco De Gregori
The albums from "Alice non lo sa" (73) to "Bufalo Bill" (76) are the most enigmatic works ever produced in Italy, and for me, they are magnificent. From my point of view, he did not continue on that path due to the famous trial he faced at Palalido. In fact, because of that, he decided to withdraw completely. Fortunately, he did not, because even afterward, while changing his style, he almost always maintained incredibly high levels. more
Fabrizio De André
A poet, even though he wouldn't have liked this definition. For me, he is (was) the greatest Italian singer-songwriter. In terms of lyrics, he has maintained the highest standards throughout his career. The music might have been a bit sparse at first, but later on it certainly wasn’t anymore, thanks to the contributions of exceptional collaborators he knew how to choose well: Bubola, Piovani, PFM, Pagani, Fossati, etc. Rest in peace, Faber. more
Rino Gaetano
Compared to his "colleagues," he had the peculiarity of talking about very serious and pressing topics without the seriousness they usually entail, never taking himself too seriously, and often using the "weapon" of nonsense: My brother is an only child, Spendi spandi Effendi, Capofortuna, Aida are just a few examples. He truly died too young. RIP Rino more
Niccolò Fabi -La Cura Del tempo
Before rediscovering it literally with "Ecco," recently unearthed, this beautiful album from 2003 was the one I had listened to the most and absorbed best by Fabi. The albums of his that I have listened to more, but at completely different times, are precisely the two "milestones" of his career, those with which he made a significant leap forward compared to the previous output: first with this one, which marked an initial artistic maturity and a clear step up from the first three albums, pleasant but still immature, and then with the jewel from 2012, with which he entered the phase of "complete maturity." Already with "La cura del tempo," the most valid albums of Fabi begin, showcasing undeniable good taste for melody (like "È non è"), refined arrangements, with touches of variety and color just the right amount (the sax in "Ora e qui" and "Il negozio di antiquariato," the strings, the accordion in "Nel centro," all around the ever-present accompaniment of acoustic guitar and piano, complete with a Moog solo by Adriano Pennino in "Lentamente," which has a very seventies vibe, in a context of pop/singer-songwriter that is perfectly the offspring of its decade and the one before it. Delicate songs, beautiful lyrics, excellent musicians (there’s Marangolo on drums, Di Battista on sax), towards the end it might become a bit repetitive, it lacks that sense of "completeness" and "solid variety" that will come with "Ecco," but this album remains one of Fabi's most valid works, a delightful listen. more

a beautiful album that once again powerfully confirms the greatness of its composer. more
J.K. Rowling
For heaven's sake, I acknowledge the enormous impact he has had on modern children's literature and, in general, but for the past few years, with all his public statements, he has been making one disastrous impression after another. more
Pino Daniele
Outstanding both as a musician and as a songwriter, and finally as a performer: he has traversed an infinite array of musical genres and has collaborated with some of the greatest musicians out there. It might be my limitation, but to someone who has left such a profound mark on music, even if he has experienced some declines in his career (and he certainly has, like almost everyone), I can't rate him lower than 5 stars. more
Ivan Graziani
Beautiful albums like I lupi, Pigro, Agnese dolce Agnese, Viaggi e Intemperie, Ivan Graziani (83); but also Ivangarage (89) and Malelingue (94), a bit underwhelming are the others. A great guitarist, who passed away too soon at just over 50 years old. RIP Ivan and thank you for what you left us. more
