Old Alvin Straight, living in Iowa, learns that his brother Lyle has suffered a heart attack and is in poor health. Eager to reunite with him after so long and lacking a driver's license, he will travel across the USA to Wisconsin (where his brother lives) on a tractor. It is a beautiful story and an original road movie, a great film that speaks for itself and should be watched in one go from start to finish. more

A romantic comedy by director Leslye Headland (famous for the 2012 film 'Bachelorette') starring Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie. Two young people have their first time almost casually during their college years. They will meet again years later at a point in their lives where both are in crisis and unable to form any kind of relationship. They start spending time together, fall in love, and are uncertain about whether to turn their friendship into a true relationship, all leading up to the predictable happy ending. It’s not a poorly made film; it’s just that one can certainly observe how this kind of story has been presented and re-presented a thousand times and will be again a thousand times more. Clearly, it’s something that often happens in real life. more

I saw him live last year in Imola with Angus and the gang, and it was terrible: zero voice, charisma of a mummy. For me, AC/DC have always been Bon Scott, not this strangled chicken. Tolerable on "Back In Black" and "For Those About To Rock", but for 15 years now, his "voice" has been living off garbage. However, the band's latest move, which is to replace him with Axl Rose, almost makes me miss him. more

An eternal mystery, he moved from the new wave phase with unkempt bangs, ankle boots, and various get-ups to the "cursed" cowboy look during the golden era of unforgettable fire - joshua three - rattle and hum (back then, despite the cork height, not-so-great nose, and a physique he openly admitted to neglecting, he was considered attractive by many hot ones). Over time, he faded both aesthetically and artistically, until he became a bloated mess with four dyed hairs and the usual (now pathetic) earrings— nun se regge. His voice has been hit or miss since 1992, depending on the moment... Heartland - U2 we remember him like this.

The return of the king. After the release of the first volume, here comes 'Electronica vol. 2: the heart of noise', the new studio album by Jean-Michel Jarre. Eighteen tracks and excellent collaborations with Rone, Pet Shop Boys, Gary Numan, Primal Scream, Peaches, Sebastian Tellier, Cyndi Lauper... Given his extensive expertise in the field, the master skillfully navigates the different material presented, excellently adapting each time to the characteristics of the collaborating partner, alternating between more or less kitsch and more or less experimental pop episodes. Perhaps due to this, there might be a slight lack of heterogeneity in the content, but it remains a record of the highest quality regarding the sounds proposed and the caliber of the artists involved. The track I liked the most is 'Electrees', featuring a collaboration with Hans Zimmer. more

Ondi Timoner — Dig! | DeRank™: 0,00

Documentary film by Ondi Timoner (awarded at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004) that chronicles over the years the trajectory of the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre of Anton Newcombe. The former's rise and achievement of significant results in terms of albums sold and audience are documented, while the latter is mostly portrayed as an eccentric and decadent figure, extreme in his behavior and self-destructive. The documentary has helped to give some notoriety to Anton's group, but he has often referred to 'Dig!' as garbage because, in practice, the content of the documentary deviates from the main reason, which is the music, to become in some way 'fiction'. The viewing experience is still suggested: we are still talking about an hour and a half to two hours in the company of two of the biggest bands of the last twenty-thirty years.

Delightful, directed by animator Kondo with extreme taste and delicacy, all evident from his character design work. Meticulously crafted interpersonal relationships create a story that is decidedly more layered and interesting, mature, compared to a trivial pre-adolescent love story. Not the best from Studio Ghibli, but it emotionally touches me immensely.
I wonder what masterpieces Yoshifumi Kondo would have brought to life; his loss is greatly felt. more

Absolute masterpiece, immense and transcendental, life in its entirety, joy and pain; the escapist attempts and self-deceptions of that wonderful character, Gemma di bambù (along with other equally wonderful supporting characters), are futile; suicide will be inevitable.
Simply sublime pastel style, so many scenes worthy of framing for their pathos, accompanied by a highly inspired Hisaishi. more
