I like to define them as the Bathory of the new millennium, and in doing so, I know I will attract the fierce criticism of hordes of hardcore Quorthonians... yet this is what Amon Amarth inspires in me when I listen to them... the same fierce neopaganism, the same passion, the same visceral attachment to their roots that Bathory had... of course, there will be those who contradict me by naming Enslaved, Windir, Moonsorrow, and who knows how many other bands they consider 'truly' Viking, but I don't care.
