Everyone says that "Pet Sounds" is an avant-garde masterpiece. I don't know, it seems to me like a very, very conservative album, with beautiful melodies and superb arrangements. But very conservative.
You can't compare this to an album like "Revolver." Just think about "Tomorrow Never Knows," now that's pop/rock avant-garde.
Anyway, I give 2.5 for talent and career, and half a point more for the charm of some of their songs. more
