October 1987: the last tour of Husker Du begins in their homeland. A series of concerts that will be interrupted, and never resumed, by the definitive human and artistic break of the bond that seemed unbreakable between Bob and Grant; the record label seven years later publishes this monumental sonic epitaph. Twenty-four tracks that open with the furious "New Day Rising," continue with the epic "Ice Cold Ice," and conclude with the cover of "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker"...LEGEND. more
Another one of those rare occasions when a band in its career has almost gotten everything right. Year 2001, these wacky geniuses of the more 'crooked' and experimental noise rock release what will be their swan song. And so we have skewed and limping rhythms, dissonances, split voices, TSO-like chants, out-of-tune guitars, and bursts of genius coming down like rain... Another band that deserved so much more visibility. more
The Morbid Angel arrive in 1995 with their fourth album; continuing in alphabetical order, "Domination" is its title. It’s the demonic and dark growl of David that opens the album, immediately followed by Pete's drumming and the sick guitars of Trey and Erik: it’s the beginning of a hellish journey, which concludes with the almost six minutes of "Hatework," where a militaristic percussive backdrop guides the listening of a track that brings forth alive anguish with its funeral pace... APOCALYPTIC... more
The 2005 debut "Silent Alarm" was an overwhelming electric shock: a Music that aimed straight towards the English '80s New Wave. Then a decline that hit me, negatively. And it's a shame. more
A record that experiments with "new sounds," more mature than the previous ones and played much better thanks to the technical mastery of Patrick Djivas. The intro of the title track and a significant part of "Via Lumière" feel directly lifted from "Red" by KC, while "Dolcissima Maria" is a poignant progressive ballad. more
The essence of extreme psychedelia, "Elements" and "Alchemy" are albums from another planet. more
Great writer, author of the best-seller "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" from 1962, an important figure of the '60s hippie counterculture. He was a close friend of the Grateful Dead, with whom he experimented with the "Acid Tests," musical and cultural gatherings where guests were "put at ease" by the consumption of psychoactive substances, such as LSD... more
Excellent psychedelic band from Los Angeles, active from 1966 to 1970, creators of at least a couple of great albums, very unique as they featured all sorts of instruments like banjo, violin, dobro, dulcimer... A fundamental work remains "Beacon From Mars," a true gem from 1968... more
Few artists can boast a career like that of "Van The Man." He has crafted great albums for at least 5 decades, with a distinctive style, exceptional vocal mastery, and powerful lyrics. In my opinion, the first part of his career remains fundamental, with timeless works such as "Astral Weeks," "Moondance," and "Saint Dominic's Preview," where music transcends into Art. more
nightmare album, terrifying. I listened to it for the first time in 1998. It must be a coincidence, but since then I went out of my mind! more
One of the most underrated Italian artists, a great poet, an excellent interpreter, and the author of some of the most beautiful Italian songs of the last 30 years. more
They spoke to me in messianic tones about this bunch. I ran to get their "David Comes To Life" and I didn’t understand... and to this day I still don’t understand the reason for all that enthusiasm, even from the critics. Maybe it’s just me, but 18 tracks where you can't tell one song from another... all the same. It sounds to me like they wanted to make some sort of personal "Zen Arcade," but who knows... the comparison is just nonexistent. Maybe it's just me... but these FUCKERS don’t say much to me... more
the quintessence of the black mass more
As far as I'm concerned, it could have stopped at Highway 61 Revisited and a minimum of 4 stars were guaranteed. If we then add the monumental Blonde on Blonde, Bringing It All Back Home, Blood on the Tracks, Basement Tapes and the others, a 5 is personally mandatory. Well, he’s made some bad albums too... but damn, Blonde on Blonde! more
I've always found them annoying, what can I do... more
"Orgasm" is quite original for being from 1969. more
Their music is a continuous psychedelic trip. It's a shame that not all of their albums are of high quality. more
All I need to remember is a date: November 17, 1991, Bloom in Mezzago, near Milan. A venue literally set ablaze by the shockwave of the three guys from Seattle, when Kurt was still able to keep his inner demons hidden. ONE OF THE CONCERTS OF MY LIFE... Five stars and forever!!! more
On paper, it has everything to appeal to me. However, upon listening, it doesn't excite me that much. more
