Deerhoof is a U.S. band that has reached its seventh album and, despite everything, never ceases to amaze by continuing to churn out more than respectable albums.
Indeed, after three impeccable albums from many points of view like "Halfbird," "Reveille," and "Apple O," this year they come out with a concept album about the fairy tale of a milkman who kidnaps children: Milk Man, indeed.
There is no denying, the album is one of those that grabs you from the first minutes. The guitars, sharp and well-organized, blend well with the keyboard but especially with the voice, clear and pure, which amidst odd rhythms and sudden key changes, manages to sustain always pleasant and fitting melodies, steering the tracks through moments of near-human madness (Dog on the Sidewalk) and slow, dreamy atmospheres (New Sneakers).
The 33 minutes that separate the title track from the closing piece slip away with sweetness and become increasingly enjoyable with each listen.
Sure, it's not a masterpiece, but it certainly deserves more than a cursory listen.
