It's not a great album... yet it left something inside me... probably it's my memories of those distant years..
"Made in Europe" struck me back then for its harshness... the low, warm voice of Coverdale... and the high voice of Hughes. That rock funk... that grabs you and warms you up.. it stirs your soul... that unashamed and arrogant way... almost music for delinquents... soundtrack of 70s gangs (Vallanzasca and company).... in that suburban Milan... amidst the winter fogs, I listened to this record looking out my home window...
Beautiful "Mistreated".... slow.. warm... sensual.. hard and raw.. just like "Lady double dealer"... or the wonderful "Stormbringer"... with a stunning solo by Lord on the keyboards... music that gets into your veins... makes you want to break and smash everything... or be in the company of warm and lonely women....
The Deep Purple of that period... starting from "Burn"... then "Stormbringer".. ending with... "Come taste the Band"... and this 1976 Live... created a hard rock period differently from the previous lineup... heavily influenced by funk and soul... and while on the one hand, the lineup with Gillan and Glover... undoubtedly had more polish, grit, and vitality... it is also true that this new line sensually winked and succeeded decisively at that warm and flaming sound that only soul and funk can deliver...
Not just two extras, but they innovate and enrich the group’s live sound especially in the vocal part.
Even decades later, the authenticity of the Deep Purple rock icon oozes from the grooves of this record.
