After Lucifero Alchemico from 2021, Federico De Caroli (known as Deca), a historic ambient and electronic music composer from Savona, returns with a new work titled Dreamtown Piano. I'll say right away that, compared to the experimental and esoteric Lucifero Alchemico, the new album stylistically connects back to Isole Invisibili from 5 years ago and is characterized by a purely piano style. Entirely played on Bosendorfer pianos, Dreamtown Piano consists of 14 tracks that enjoy a happy inspiration and show us the romantic side of an eclectic artist who has been able to transition, over the years, from electronic experimentation to minimalism and even different fields such as theater and television. His Simbionte is still considered today by many a cornerstone of ambient music although Deca's status has always been that of a niche and cult artist. I admit I am not a fan of piano-only albums and yet this Dreamtown Piano has a spatial sound, with an unreal sophistication I've rarely heard before. It is a sort of concept where the music is inspired by those untouched corners of nature located in large urban cities, which are almost like magical islands, places where it is possible, even in a chaotic environment, to enter a state of transcendence. The message that this music conveys seems almost to show how it is possible, while remaining connected to it, to escape the gray daily life. The album flows smoothly and calmly and maintains high stylistic levels without ever being boring. The notes evoke those glimpses of eternity still possible to grasp in the crazy reality we live in. Dreamtown Piano is released by the Roman label Sonor Music Editions and can be listened to for free on Spotify.
On January 24th, the official music video - in 4K - of the opening track "Dreamtown Skyline" was published on YouTube.
