THE REVIEW

New album (2009) for Debustrol from the Czech Republic, a quartet active since 1986 and now on their 11th record.

Nothing new, but a good heavy hardcore with metal sound, all complemented by a driven and intense voice that doesn't resemble Lemmy's in tone but does in certain cadences, dragging coarse until the end of the 12 tracks of "Rwanda".

The first songs immediately deliver good time changes and a raw sound, especially the second track "Peklo Takhle Zni". The violence is well-mitigated by the variety of rhythms, never monotonous. "Alahova Krek" is, in my opinion, the best with its massive guitar sound reminiscent of the German band Ryker's, while "Vudje Je Vul" is the only instance where you hear Kolins' calm and spoken intro vocals.

Lovely solo parts by guitarist Trifida in the fast-paced "Pornokrist" and in "Buh Zehnej Americe" although it's the rhythmic impact that gives the band structure, and as the album nears the end, it adopts an increasingly thrash sound. Good bass play by Zed, which rises in pitch not only in the title track but also in "Vietkong", while Skull II's drumming remains precise and compact even in the more measured parts like in the closing "Tibet".

Great record, fast and powerful, nothing innovative, but in my view, the alternation of tempos and HC structures in which thrash-metal sounds fit is convincing.

I also want to add that the "Rwanda" music video is chilling, a documentary on the war massacres in the African country, macabre and touching.
