Death is an American proto-punk band formed by the Hackney brothers in Detroit in the early 1970s. Their recordings from 1975–76, including the single featuring "Politicians in My Eyes" and "Keep On Knocking," were unreleased for decades and later compiled and issued by Drag City as ...For the Whole World to See.

Their mid-1970s recordings were compiled and released by Drag City in 2009. A documentary about the band, "A Band Called Death," was released and chronicles their story.

A single DeBaser review praises Death's early-70s ferocious Detroit rock and highlights the Drag City compilation ...For the Whole World to See. The review connects the band's sound to Hendrix, MC5, New York Dolls and early punk influences. It calls the collection a rediscovered gem that anticipates punk in Detroit.

For:Fans of proto-punk, garage rock, Detroit rock history, and music historians

Another gem from the MotorCity of the early '70s. The black counterpoint to the struggles of John Sinclair's White Panthers. Definitely my nostalgia record of the just-ended 2009.
