The Profile

Death Angel is an American thrash metal band from the San Francisco Bay Area, formed in 1982 by Filipino-American cousins. They debuted with The Ultra-Violence (1987), followed by Frolic Through the Park (1988) and Act III (1990). After a 1991 split following a tour bus accident, they reunited in 2001 and returned with albums including The Art of Dying (2004), Killing Season (2008), Relentless Retribution (2010), The Dream Calls For Blood (2013) and The Evil Divide (2016).

Core members include Mark Osegueda (vocals) and Rob Cavestany (guitars); classic lineup also featured Gus Pepa, Dennis Pepa, and Andy Galeon. Early demos included Heavy Metal Insanity (1983) and Kill as One (1986) with help from Kirk Hammett. Act III was released via Geffen Records; recent albums were issued by Nuclear Blast. Max Norman produced Act III-era material referenced in reviews.

Nine DeBaser reviews track Death Angel from their blistering debut to modern-era returns. Critics praise technical thrash, melodic touches, and old-school speed, with Act III and The Ultra-Violence often spotlighted. The reunion era divides opinions—from the streamlined punch of The Evil Divide to the criticized Relentless Retribution. Overall verdict: a respected Bay Area fixture with stamina and chops.
