Active for just over a year, Dead Ends soon found the necessary inspiration to create their first original songs, which ended up in “Petrichor,” a four-track mini preview that hints at the DNA of our group.
Recorded at Skie Studios in Rome under the supervision of Marco Calanca (Hopes Die Last) and Daniele Ingrati (Seven Circles), the EP sounds modern, embracing the current trends in screamo and latest generation metal bands. In particular, Dead Ends seem to have a natural inclination for the sound across the Channel, looking at the work of Architects, Bullet For My Valentine, and Bring Me The Horizon for the necessary inspiration to stand out. What is contained in “Petrichor” is certainly something of good quality in both composition and production, the sounds are well balanced and the songs have the right touch to be appreciated by a young audience fond of new trends in an alternative key, as demonstrated by “Break The Silence” (also available as a video on the Web) and “Between The Lies,” tracks on which to lay the foundation for the debut album.
Regarding the vocals, on record, they seem to be able to keep up with the soundscape, performing acceptably in both screamo and clean parts. Four well-conceived tracks and a solid starting point on which to build something important, now it's time to roll up the sleeves in the live setting and bring to life a debut that keeps up the high-quality standards of these Dead Ends!
