It's incredible how certain masterpieces go unnoticed in Italy. Try searching for "Dead Confederate" and you might find a map of the Southern United States or little more.

Who are they? They obviously come from the States. Georgia, to be precise. And they are on their first album (before this, an EP worth looking for as well).

What kind of music do they make? They make a blues/southern infused style. Infused with what? The prevailing psyche. What emerges is a mix of Built To Spill (but lacking the progressive here), Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Black Crowes (mentioning Lynyrd and Allman would be misleading).

Ten average-length songs. The first two are memorable. Yet, the entire album is of an extremely high standard. It makes one doubt they could do better on their next try.

Dead Confederate have placed themselves at the crossroads of classic Rock. The variants that exist in Indie, Pop, or Rock are most diverse, but in listening to the Confederate you get the clear impression of having reached the heart of the matter. I would be inclined to say something genuinely "root" and everything else seems mere business.

This makes it hard to abandon listening. One listens to it repeatedly. The melodies are powerful and never banal or predictable. Just listen to the first track "Heavy petting" and you're hooked.
