DE GRINPIPOL - Elephants
(Self-production)
They are from Sardinia but could easily come from some corner of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NYC. Yes, because the music of Elephants is anything but Italian. It feels international. It has the eccentricity of bands like MGMT (one of the bands that made it from Brooklyn, NYC), a desire to shuffle the deck. Cards that refer, it must be clear, to a musical geography that smells of indie, low-fi, and American alternative. In fact, the previous album was "manipulated by a guru of the New York scene who had worked with people like Pavement, one of the cornerstones of the New York indie sound. And now here they are again with this elephantine album. Elephantine in the sense that it certainly stands well above many albums currently coming out of the Italian indie scene. Albums that lack the "substance" that De Grinpipol offer in this beautiful album. If you don't believe it, listen to the single, "Something high, something low" and you'll understand what we're talking about.
