The Profile

De Facto are an American experimental dub group featuring Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, joined by Isaiah “Ikey” Owens and Jeremy Michael Ward. Active from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, they crafted largely instrumental, studio-improvised dub with Latin and jazz inflections; Omar often handled bass and Cedric drums. The project bridged their transition from At the Drive-In toward The Mars Volta.

Side project of members of At the Drive-In, preceding The Mars Volta; instrumentation included melodica, keyboards, bass, drums, and live effects; releases include ¡Megaton Shotblast! and Légende du scorpion à quatre queues (both 2001).

De Facto, the dub-heavy, instrumental side project of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, channels improvisational studio jams with Latin touches. Reviews highlight ¡Megaton Shotblast! and How Do You Dub? as key releases, with nods to jazz, reggaeton, and salsa infusions. A clear bridge from At the Drive-In to The Mars Volta.
