The apotheosis of music, in every form of its expression. The best album I have ever listened to, the anger and tears expressed within it are deeply felt. First and foremost, the music, it's wonderful. From every point of view. Christian Hip Hop (I emphasize the choice of being Christian, in a shitty world where religion counts for nothing) with rock undertones, sometimes hard rock. I would particularly highlight the title track, very compelling with its grunge sound, and its video, which calling it amazing would be an understatement. A continuous outcry against humanity's injustices on people, particularly the camps (this time communist ones). The music is pure, clean. Without violent riffs or anything else. A bit hippie, these dc Talk, but surely they are one of the bands that have left the greatest mark on my life. The album has enough of a dose to send a shiver up and down your spine. The music so clean, carrying the essence of dew that permeates the sound of such a beautiful album. If Jesus Freak is stained with blood, then it means it got hurt fighting for its ideas, like the (I would say wonderful and righteous) youth movement, here there is no longer a tyrant killing people. At least this is what dc Talk wants us to understand, with harshness if necessary. But always honestly and targeting the people who kill, the band is often uncomfortable everywhere, on MTV, on All Music; so much so that I saw Jesus Freak on a local private television. Maybe because the truth that gets slammed in our face like a punch, causes bruises and displeasure. There are people who still say that Ministry is a band fighting for an opinion! But what for? The last album released by that fool Al is crap. Instead, dc Talk is more sincere and certainly doesn't need violent guitars to make an impact. Jesus Freak is an album that reinvented the concept of music, which over time has been somewhat sullied by the experimentalism of some bands. I would define them as punk, (even though they are very Pop). There are truly beautiful songs, What Have We Become and the Led Zeppelin-like Day by Day and the delicate Colored People. But the masterpiece of the album remains Jesus Freak, angry and protest-driven! I recommend the album to those who enjoy music without labels, and for those who are pissed off with the obsolete system.
PS: Sorry for the short review, but I didn't want to write 3 pages of nonsense, just to get a 1 as always, so I preferred to write a few things, which from my point of view (and I don't know about you...) seem sensible. Sorry again.
