DAVIDE COSTANTINI – The First Man on the Moon
(Self-produced)
"The painter paints on canvas. Musicians paint their pictures on silence instead." Davide Costantini, a Roman musician, defines his approach to music this way; quoting Leopold Stokowski, an English conductor active in the last century. And Costantini breaks the silence in an unusual way for a singer-songwriter (as he defines himself in the album's introduction notes). Yes, because Davide likes to have a nice palette at his disposal with room for lots of colors. The color of rock, of funk, unusual especially considering that he defines himself as a singer-songwriter. Costantini is certainly an unconventional singer-songwriter, not so much for the content but precisely for his musical approach, more like a rock band that loves to cross genres, and therefore a singer-songwriter for whom not only the words but also the form behind the words matter... It matters so much that the album was recorded at 432 Hz. And here we discover another "antagonist" point (in addition to the lyrics that try to speak about a system that, as Davide himself says, now feels tight on us); yes, because you should know that an obscure organization (International Organization for Standardization) in 1955 decided that the 432 Hz format used by our musician was not good and that we should conform to the standard frequency of 440 Hz. In the past, some people had already seriously disregarded these trivialities (the Pink Floyd, who tuned all the instruments, in many of their albums, according to A at 432 Hz). Costantini decides to do the same. It is said that the 432 frequency speaks directly to the heart chakra. Costantini with this bizarre album succeeds fully in speaking to our hearts.
