With the arrival of September, there's an irresistible urge on social media (particularly on Facebook) to post, at least on the first day of the month, David Sylvian's September. We, however, distance ourselves somewhat from such repetitive and mass phenomena and resort, with the aristocratic sufficiency and indestructible admiration befitting the ex-Japan member, to greet the month of September by listening to his first solo single: Red Guitar (1984). As history recalls, the single preceded the album "Brilliant Trees," and marked the beginning of a dazzling solo career, already foreshadowed by his collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto (1983) for the soundtrack of the film Furyo (a classic gay movie with Bowie and Sakamoto) in the famous Forbidden Colours, which we find as the B-side of this Red Guitar. A 7-inch that remains a cult object. David Sylvian here redraws his original writing and pays homage to Bowie, playing in the cover (as never before) between similarities and reflections. Anton Corbijn's direction for the clip ultimately completes the perfection of this diamond. So, welcome September!
