THE REVIEW

David Bowie-Scary Monsters   (1980)

The planet is glowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowinglowin...

It's unbearably hot and the heat plays nasty tricks. It's no game: my girlfriend is crazy, I couldn't believe it, but that's how it is; tomorrow I'll call her psychiatrist and make him pay: I tried to convince her to stay with me, I told her see how alike we are, same white skin, blue eyes, even the same moles on our faces, you look like my female doppelganger, like Angie and Bowie, you know, I gave you money, but not my hair, I keep those- and what does she do? the pseudo-mystic... she wanted to become a secular nun like her friend Claudia Kol, then she got back with the ex, then bombards me with texts, then I fought and that's it, she wants to change her life. That impotent puppet of an ex wants to take away everything I had, wait until you see the surprise I have in store for him...

And on YouTube, I see an old music video that's a punch to the heart: Ashes to Ashes.... sigh! My eyes get misty, how many years have passed, what an impression it made when I first saw it... An abyss of madness and abstinence in that final nursery rhyme, with those artificial chromakey lights, and the pitch-black starless beach. Oh, the album? Well, it's the last great album of the duke, aside from sweeping nonsense like teenage wildlife it’s no game parts 3-4-5, it has truly remarkable songs and Fripp's presence is a certified markBecause you’re young, Kingdom Come, Fashion, Scream like a baby...

Andrea Saolini of Dressedtokiss told me in a dream, Valé, come down, come down from the Ground Control tower, you're too high up, come down, you're obsessed with this crazy woman. But if women aren't crazy, where's the fun, what kind of entertainment would it be with the normal ones?

David is always different, and in all his variations, he always manages to be great.

'Scary Monster,' 'Ashes to Ashes,' and 'Fashion' are my favorite tracks.
