Rating: "Real Biography..." is an unconventional album. Darmon King returns six years after "Tha Whore-Master," and this time the tones are different. The album is entirely in memory of his best friend who passed away in a sea accident, and you can feel it. However, there is also space for irony (see the various skits) and for anger (see "Fari Spenti" and "So Damn!"). But the aspect that stands out the most is the absolute introspection that lies behind each track.
The atmosphere is dark and somber, and from the cover alone, you realize there's little to laugh about and much to ponder. It talks about a life that gets out of control too easily ("...to those whose life is consumed/and to those who left in a hurry..."), in a world where one doesn't know whether to run or stop waiting for "Giorni Migliori" (a track that had a good radio rotation as well as "Criptonite"). "Will it be better days or just another life among many/because maybe we are everything... or maybe we are nothing" the chorus is punctuated by these words accompanied by Lara's voice and a splendid beat by Jerry Spina. And it is in the most intimate part of the album that we find the gems. "Going On", "Verità Nascoste" and especially "Ricordi 9-03" (the masterpiece of the album) represent those dedications made of words that leave it to the wind to reach the recipient.
There is also space for controversy in "Verba Domini D.C." that feels much like a response to events from years ago (a lawsuit for broadcasting a track against the Church world). A final track worth mentioning in my opinion is "Headbangers" featuring Darkeemo, again on a musical score by Jerry Spina. A track that exudes street from every corner, a mix of cop film, grunge, and pure street style where the two rappers showcase their stories.
In conclusion, a rap album that doesn't seem like a rap album. A beautiful tribute to a world that changes and to the memories of our lives that always accompany us. A must-have.
