15 years ago, Dannii Minogue, the sister of Kylie Minogue, released her fourth studio album in a career of ups and downs. "Neon Nights" came out in the spring of 2003 and made Dannii the new queen of nightclubs worldwide. Her album in 2003 sold more than "American Life" by Madonna, surpassed "In the Zone" by Britney Spears, and was an inspiration for "Body Language" by her sister Kylie.
With 4 singles released "Who Do You Love Now" feat DJ Riva 2001, "Put the Needle on It" 2002, "I Begin to Wonder" 2003, and "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling" 2003, Dannii Minogue created a new style with "Neon Nights" by blending electro pop with club music, along with urban, retro, and 80s sounds.
She herself anticipated the bootleg trend that Madonna later launched with Hung Up (and the instrumental base of ABBA's Gimme Gimme Gimme). Dannii did it with Madonna's hits (Don't Wanna Lose This Groove contains the base of Into the Groove by Madonna and I Begin to Spin Round contains an old instrumental by Dead or Alive).
15 years later, London Records/Warner Bros, which had let go of Dannii due to misunderstandings and internal label issues, decided to reissue the album and, for the first time, release it on vinyl, accompanied by a double CD containing unreleased material, including photos, remixes, and unreleased tracks.
The vinyl of "Neon Nights" also includes a poster autographed by the singer herself, who says she is working on new material, possibly her sixth studio album; the fifth being
"Clubdisco" of 2008, but it did not have the same success as "Neon Nights".
I recommend this album to everyone. I saw a very rare concert of this album in 2005 in Paris from the very front row; if she were a bit more inspired, Dannii Minogue would have good potential to surpass her sister Kylie because of her talents not only as a singer but also due to a truly impressive beauty.
