It was way back in 2003, and Dannii Minogue was about to release her fourth studio album after years of silence. Everything seemed ready when she was called by the French DJ J.C.A. (Jean Claude Ades), who had a brilliant idea for her: to write new lyrics to the melody and music of his 2002 single "I Begin to Wonder," which was already a huge hit on European radios and in clubs.
Thus, in March 2003, to promote Kylie’s sister’s new album, Dannii Minogue's most powerful single "I Begin to Wonder" was released, reaching number 2 on the charts, right below Christina Aguilera’s "Beautiful."
Dannii had recently returned to the spotlight with two singles: "Who Do You Love Now" in 2001 (featuring Riva) and "Put the Needle on It" in 2002, but nothing guaranteed this worldwide success.
The echo of Kylie and her "Can’t Get You Out of My Head" was still very strong, but Dannii was also doing something good.
"I Begin to Wonder" features the same chorus as the 2002 original, but the verses are new, and with Dannii's voice, the track transitions from purely house music to pop-dance.
A very '80s beat, electronic with house nuances, precisely. The single was also accompanied by a bootleg, a remix with an old '80s track by Dead or Alive, "You Spin Me Round," which became "I Begin to Spin Round."
All this was accompanied by a beautiful video in which Dannii sexily and sensually cut her long black hair with scissors, speaking the words "I begin to wonder" in a thousand different languages.
The single with JCA sold a lot, allowing them to collaborate again on the fifth single "Come & Get It," which, however, was less successful.
