If Madonna is considered the queen of global pop, and Kylie Minogue the princess of global pop, many don't know that Dannii Minogue (Kylie's sister) is considered the queen of the clubs. Thanks to her eleven number one hits on international charts, she has earned the title of queen of the discos.
Dannii Minogue has never done real tours like Madonna or Kylie, although for every album released she tried to do very significant live performances to support her albums.
In 2005, in Paris, Dannii Minogue held a special concert in an equally special disco (GlamAsYou), and I was right in the front row in front of an audience of 2,000 people.
Dannii Minogue's show started very late, after a musical and two hours of DJ set with strictly pop music. At exactly 2 a.m., a drag queen took the stage and said for the first time in Paris, Dannii Minogue. The lights went out, and the queen of disco appeared to sing 8 strictly live songs (no playback), accompanied by her dance troupe and her mini band.
Beautiful, very slim, with long hair somewhere between brunette and blonde, dressed in a very tight yellow dress and a highly Hawaiian skirt, Dannii gave a 45-minute concert but an emotion after another, retracing the most important singles of her career and two great 80s covers.
Put the needle on it (first single from Neon Nights 2003) was the entrance with the ovation of the audience (being at the front was special, something unrepeatable); at the end of the song, she thanked the audience for the success in France and introduced her then brand-new single with the Italian DJs Flower Power, You won’t forget about me. A huge round of applause led us to the first cover of the evening, Blondie's cover with the beautiful Heart of Glass, sung splendidly, complete with a red-light microphone to make everything sexier. It continued with two other bomb singles also from 2003, namely Don’t wanna lose this groove (with a tribute to Madonna) and I begin to wonder (Dannii Minogue's actual worldwide number one).....these last two songs were much appreciated by the audience.
Est que tu maimes encore, an a cappella version of the 2001 single Who do you love now, truly sent fans to another planet; Dannii's voice was very powerful, and everyone asked for an encore with the true disco version produced by the famous DJ Riva.
The grand finale came around 3 a.m. with Prince's cover, Kiss, very spicy and sexy as both Minogue sisters are.
What can I say, a truly special and unique evening, Dannii sings live beautifully, and even though she will never be a global icon, it was nice to participate in such a beautiful event.
A few days later, alas, Kylie's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the world came to a halt.
