DALVIVO - Scenes From Afar

(Self-produced)

“Everything began when I started strumming the guitar to aid the rehabilitation of my right hand, which was atrophied, and my right arm, to improve mobility. The sounds bring back images seen during the days spent in the intensive care unit, when consciousness would flicker in and out while coming out of a medically-induced coma. I became convinced that writing these fragments of scenes, removed for months, would help me assimilate the randomness of the accident and accept its consequences. So, I began to write, in English and in song form, what I couldn’t rationally express in an Italian discourse: I chose the first words that came to mind, resonating with the music, then revisited them in Italian seeking a more realistic interpretation.” This is Federico Bessone’s story to explain the making of this album. A true therapy in the form of folk songs. One would expect a melancholic album… But no. At times, Federico clearly takes the melancholic route, but in most cases, he presents us with songs straddling folk and pop, well-arranged, thanks especially to a violin that is never somber, almost always cheerful. A beautiful album to be listened to with attention to the lyrics, a sort of cut and paste of memories and flashes from the “comatose” period.
