Belgian ensemble from Antwerp (DAAU — Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung) that uses classical instruments (violin, cello, clarinet, accordion, double bass, drums) to mix klezmer, rock, jazz, dub and electronic influences. Praised for instrumental invention and live energy.

Name comes from Herman Hesse's Steppenwolf; band debuted in 1994. The acronym DAAU appeared in 1998. Their second album, We Need New Animals, was released for Sony Classical and introduced electronics and drums. Domestic Wildlife was recorded as a sextet with added double bass and drums. Mostly instrumental recordings, occasional guest vocalists appear on some tracks.

For:Listeners of chamber music, experimental rock, klezmer and genre-blending instrumental music

Mutable, multifaceted, and multicultural these Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung, or DAAU for short: without much formality, they transition from their incarnation as a canonical classical ensemble to a klezmer band, even getting their hands dirty with dub and why not, winking at a certain kraut noise.
