Cyco Miko...who could this be? Someone might have wondered after seeing my new review on the homepage.
He is nothing more than one of the many pseudonyms used by Mike Muir to promote a wild project put together in the mid-nineties in his sunny California.
I believe there's no need to say too much about Mike; I'll just say he's the founder and leader of that infernal band that, in the early eighties, had the courage to unite Metal and Hardcore, laying solid foundations for the birth and spread of Crossover. For the very few who still haven't understood, I'm talking about the monumental, without any exaggeration on my part, Suicidal Tendencies.
As I just wrote, it's the mid-nineties and Mike puts the Suicidal to "rest"; he heads this wild crew of troublemakers, composed of people who have already collaborated with the burly leader in other very interesting projects such as the Infectious Grooves.
In many songs in the collection, even Steve Jones appears on guitar!! Yes, he's the Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols!!
Lost My Brain! (Once Again) is an album recorded in very few sessions that goes full throttle..
Hardcore-Punk with no pretensions, no technicalities, no frills. The guys led by the massive Mike go straight to the point; they hit the target dead-on with a long series of fearsome blasts.
Essential and direct, as happens in the opening "Love Destruction" immediately followed by the lightning-fast "All I Ever Get," which continues to increase in speed until the overwhelming conclusion..
All the tracks are similar: a drum that knows only one tempo and little else. Mike's voice is always torn, stretched to the limit; the guitars draw a few elementary chords. But that's okay, it works very well this way.
"Cyco Miko Wants You" is the ultimate mockery of a massive album like few others in its genre.
It's not worth top marks, but it's close...
