Curtis Lee Mayfield (June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999) was an American singer-songwriter and record producer, leader of The Impressions and a pioneering solo artist in soul and funk.

Primary songwriter and member of The Impressions; wrote the song "People Get Ready"; composed the Superfly soundtrack; known for socially conscious lyrics and influence on soul and funk.
