Within the vast discography of Current 93, this little gem entitled "Tamlin" definitely deserves a mention. It is a mini CD with two tracks in line with the best folk period of the band, released to celebrate the Hallowe'en holiday (as it is written inside the booklet) back in 1994, limited to only 3000 numbered copies in CD and LP. What can be said about the music... the track "Tamlin" is simply splendid, a very long ballad of almost 17 minutes, sweet and caressing, with Cashmore's magnificent guitar that starts by picking a moving and fairy-tale-like melody and then builds up with chords, intertwining with the "sounds" generated by the ever-present Stapleton and Tibet's voice who performs this track superbly, leaving us enchanted to listen to the tale of young Tamlin, prisoner of a spell that binds him to the queen of the elves, from which he will be saved thanks to the help of Lady Margaret, the true love that ultimately triumphs over everything. It is a traditional ballad from the British Isles, superbly adapted for the occasion by our beloved, dreamy! The second track "How The Great Satanic Glory Faded" is dedicated to the eternal friend Tiny Tim, and indeed it begins and ends with an excerpt from a phone conversation between him and Tibet discussing the figure of Lucifer. The piece is equally valid, more loaded with emphasis, especially in Tibet's vocal performance which oscillates between whisper and Luciferian scream, letting himself be carried by emotions and delivering them straight to our hearts. Notable is the presence of Nick Saloman who enriches the piece with his electric guitar flourishes. If you can, get it, borrow it from a friend, do whatever it takes, but listen and be moved by the notes of this jewel!
