Ambient, psychedelia, reverberations. These are the main ingredients of the debut album by Cum Moenia, a band from Palermo, set to be released in January.
Cinematic music, which doesn't just serve as a backdrop but is the storyline itself, amidst long shots and extreme close-ups of nocturnal metropolitan landscapes. The melodies of the tracks are contemplative, slow-core, and at times it feels like you're listening to Radiohead, or early Verve, upside down.
“Felix”, the second track of the album, is dominated by deep piano chords that, in their crescendo, merge into the harmony of the synth, the percussively played guitar, and the voice that appears from afar. “Intro-ito” is a track that blends ambient and trip-pop. “The tour of Damascous” is the piece that encapsulates all the characteristics mentioned so far, thus the summary of all the sonic material present in the work, with a final instrumental explosion reminiscent of the one in Antonioni's film Zabriskie Point. “Two minutes” is the most rock track of the album, reminiscent of the clash between Depeche Mode and the latest Anathema.
In conclusion, I can affirm that the chemistry among the musicians is palpable, the work is complex but doesn't weigh on the ear and can provide moments of contemplative serenity, remember, upside down!
