IMPORTANT NOTE: Review written under the influence of "The Beyond" by Cult Of Luna, indeed. Handle with care, keep away from children and idiots. It only took a few minutes, no more.
I was banging my head against the wall, in the throes of convulsions. The shattered mind begged forgiveness for its pettiness, as it traveled like a train speeding madly towards the dark of a cold snowy night, and angels play basketball up in the sky while a human being as small as a bean lost in the utter black void of the cosmos tries in vain to appease his existential pain in this dark world. Useless.
Blinded by the stupid impenetrable wall of my ego that twists in the distortions, in the guitar feedback, in the hypnotic arpeggios detached from common conceptuality, lost in its egocentrism while seeking a place for an emotion snatching it from the raw notes, prioritizing the end over the means. They destroy everything and are proud of it. A long, very long, relentless journey into nothingness, into darkness, into the depths of a mind clouded by benzedrine, pain, life. Every ascent towards the light is a sweet, very sweet illusion. But we already know that. How sweet it is to savor an illusion when you know there's no way out. Every single moment has its flavor, and you can savor it deeply. Hope is a luxury.
We are children of the heavens and we are destined to fall. The only cradle of our essence is the passions that blind and drive us mad under the crushing weight of wandering in this land of tears and damnation. And if I were to seek a soundtrack for this wandering of mine without peace, without aim, without hope, wearing the unacceptable weight of my most passionate eternal damnation, this will be given by "The Beyond".
I, life, hope, pain, nothingness. The review is over. Go in peace.
Cult Of Luna are among the leading figures and interpreters of the modern changes that metal sounds have undergone in recent years.
The Beyond is an excellent album, compact and well-played, consisting of ten long tracks where...one ends up being involved and (pleasantly) overwhelmed by it all.
