The Profile

Crimson Glory are an American heavy/power/progressive metal band from Florida. Acclaimed for their 1986 self-titled debut and the 1988 follow-up Transcendence, the group featured the distinctive vocals of Midnight alongside Jon Drenning, Ben Jackson, Jeff Lords, and Dana Burnell, and were known for their silver masks. They shifted styles on 1991’s Strange and Beautiful and returned in 1999 with Astronomica fronted by Wade Black.

Formed in Florida; classic lineup: Midnight (vocals), Jon Drenning, Ben Jackson, Jeff Lords, Dana Burnell; signature silver masks; key albums: Crimson Glory (1986), Transcendence (1988), Strange and Beautiful (1991), Astronomica (1999); Midnight died in 2009.

DeBaser reviewers celebrate Crimson Glory’s 1986 debut and the towering Transcendence as genre-defining heavy/power/prog metal. Midnight’s soaring voice is repeatedly praised, with songs like Painted Skies, Lonely, and Red Sharks singled out. Strange and Beautiful is criticized for a pop-rock turn, while Astronomica is seen as a darker, respectable return without Midnight.
