2010.
Perhaps not the best premise to make Rock. At least not to do it according to one's own ideal.

About a year ago I met a young guy, a singer, guitarist, and leader of a local band. I saw him play some cover songs of famous pieces and couldn’t help but notice the band's talent.
When I saw him again, he offered me a humble EP that seemed to have been recorded and printed at his home, and he gave it to me without asking for anything in return. The album of his band was there waiting for me. Fascinated and curious, I immediately put it in the stereo and started the music. What I heard was anything but music from an unknown band. The music could boast great compositional freshness and an extraordinary involvement of the band in its music. Thus, my journey began.

The album, consisting of six tracks, opens with "Proemio", which evokes the beginning of a journey, being (also) the opening to Homer's Odyssey. From the Proemio, it moves to the song that perhaps more than any other represents the group, namely "Fuori Dal Mondo," an excellent piece whose themes focus on a sense of estrangement and alienation from the world that characterizes Crevice and their music. Aggressive guitars and Elia Biancardi's voice intertwine on a well-organized keyboard backdrop, giving the song the right atmosphere.

The following "Il Nostro Show" is a song dominated by the splendid piano with a very sweet and moving melody that opens and leads the song, once again based on a feeling of inadequacy and disillusionment with the world. Direct and sincere lyrics, disruptive guitar, and a piano full of sentiment. Next is "Lo Sparo, Il Silenzio", a gem for which rock should be proud. Synthesizers open the dance, immediately accompanied by Biancardi's sweet voice, here more expressive than ever, and the guitar melody that will soon dominate the scene. The music is sad and powerful and the perfectly blended instruments soon culminate in the first solo, preceded by excellent vocal progression. Now the music becomes harder, and you realize that the soul of Crevice no longer resides in their bodies but merges directly with the music. Insistent drums and aggressive guitar soon lead us to the second, magnificent solo, which hits suddenly to offer new emotions and make you reflect, no matter on what. A performance worthy of applause. Everything that should always be in rock is present here: compositional and technical skills and, above all, sentiment.

After the splendid "Lo Sparo, Il Silenzio", it transitions to "Lie", not the masterpiece of the album but not (mind you) a filler either. A short and direct song, aggressive and never trivial. The excellent vocal melody is accompanied by the strong guitar riff and always fresh and original keyboards, in a powerful metal without too many pretensions that leads to a good final solo. Thus closes the penultimate track of the EP, which, however, reserves for the end the second true masterpiece of the album: "The Black Lady".
Once again, it's the piano opening, and once again it doesn't disappoint. Biancardi's voice enters the scene immediately, dueting solo with the piano for about two minutes before marking with an energetic high note the entrance of the guitar, always very bright. The music then shifts from a sweet melody to an energetic piece dominated by guitars, culminating in the anticipated solo by Luca Bonetti (which, I might add, duets with Biancardi himself). At the end of the impeccable solo, the initial melody returns, marking the end of this short but intense journey.

The Crevice, indeed, astonish me. The music is exceptional. It is fundamentally a meeting of classic rock, alternative rock, and metal, but it doesn't stop at this simplistic definition. In this disc lies the soul; the soul of a group that entered a recording studio without a dime and recorded six tracks without even being able to sell them properly afterward. The soul of a group that wants to earn a rightful place in music.

This is the strange story of a band that plays well in a music scene that sounds bad. But if music still matters for something, at least for some crazy fanatic like me, success is just around the corner, and sooner or later it will come.

Good luck, because you have left me with something indelible and immortal. Thank you
