Nymphetamine has divided. The most uncompromising fans of the English vampires turned up their noses at an album less "COF style" and more "metal oriented," but on the other hand, Dani and his cohorts have gained new legions of fans who love an extreme metal that perhaps has become too aligned with commercial logic. However, it would be unfair to give a bad judgment about this concert. Captured on DVD, the performance of Cradle of Filth in French Paris represents perhaps an excellent manifesto of their live performance capabilities, but above all, it captures the fascinating atmosphere present at their concert, a mix of music and pure theatricality. And it should not be considered just a promotion of the decent Nymphetamine, but it is also a sort of overview of the past glory of the vampires in question.
Upon first viewing, I must say the "bad and evil" recited intro made me laugh, but the atmosphere becomes engaging first with the decent "Gilded Cunt" and "Nemesis", then definitely interesting with (in my opinion) the excellent "Mannequin". And this is where the show truly takes off: "The Black Goddess Rises", "A Gothic Romance", "Her Ghost in the Fog", and the captivating "Nymphetamine" cut a fine figure live, and various acrobats ascending above the chubby Dani Filth are fascinating. Dani screams, moves, rages with the band that offers an excellent performance. The show continues very well with "Tortured Soul Asylum" (the chills at hearing its introduction...), and the timeless and dark "The Forest Whispers My Name". And how wonderful it is to hear the power of "The Promise of Fever"! Only one album is missing from which to draw, and it is Cruelty and The Beast. Anyone expecting the classic "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" will be pleasantly surprised to hear "Thirteen Autumns and a Widow" followed by the decent "Mother of Abominations". The excellent concert ends with "From The Cradle To Enslave", a live classic.
The DVD bonuses include a kind of documentary on tour and in-studio (Postcards from Vulgaria), a pointless photogallery, and an excellent video section from "Her Ghost in the Fog" to "Nymphetamine".
I would recommend the purchase to those who love Cradle of Filth and want confirmation of their still inherent value. I recommend it to those who were disappointed by Nymphetamine or those who remain interested and want to deepen their knowledge, starting with a document that testifies to their excellent showmanship skills.
