The Profile

Country Joe and the Fish are an American psychedelic rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area, formed in 1965. Known for their fusion of folk protest traditions with acid-rock textures, they became emblematic of the 1960s counterculture and are best known for the anti-war anthem I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag and the Fish Cheer.

Performed at Woodstock in 1969; core figures include Country Joe McDonald (vocals) and Barry "The Fish" Melton (guitar); seminal albums include Electric Music for Mind and Body (1967) and I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die (1967).

Two glowing DeBaser reviews celebrate Country Joe & The Fish’s 1967 one-two punch: Electric Music for Mind and Body and I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-To-Die. Expect psychedelic folk-blues, organ-driven trips, and sharp anti-war sarcasm, from the Fish Cheer to the infamous rag. The pieces highlight Bay Area acid-rock textures, raga-tinged jams, and protest-song lineage from Guthrie/Dylan. Woodstock and the counterculture backdrop loom large.
