The Rock attitude and way of doing things are something you have to have in your blood, and these five had it to spare!
Sure, the topic has already been extensively debated, but good Lester (rest in peace, wherever he is) got it right once again.
It is certainly not the mastery and knowledge of the instruments that make this group great, it's not the music they produce, it's not even fiery tracks like Psychotic Reaction or Can’t Get Your Lovin or Out in the Street that catapult them among the absolute stars of the Rocket world.
No! With this album (and to be honest, not just this one, I think of the various Troogs, Monks, Sonics, Who…) there is the realization that anyone with good ideas can make Rock’n’Roll!
What strikes first and foremost is the simplicity of execution and the freshness of intent that permeates it, the noise, the distortion of sound for the sheer pleasure of doing it, the lightness and defiance with which the pieces are tackled.
Yes, because upon listening, it's not that exceptional; in fact, I would say that to our ears, it’s quite dated (dated, I say, not unlistenable), but it is a mirror of its time, where Rockabilly and Blues still contaminated the scene and psychedelia began to spread its acidic seeds all over California (and this is a clear example of that), it is the very image of a change in tastes and customs within the youth movement of the era.
It's thanks to albums like this that all doors were smashed open, and these youngsters deserve credit for the great leap towards the new that was arriving!
With one detail… Don’t take them too seriously, otherwise, they’ll get offended!!!!
Tracklist Lyrics and Videos
04 Psychotic Reaction (03:08)
I feel depressed, I feel so bad
'Cause you're the best girl that I've ever had
I can't get your love, I can't get a fraction
Oh, little girl, psychotic reaction
And it feels like this!
I feel so lonely night and day
I can't get your love, I must stay away
Well, I need you, girl, by my side
Oh, little girl, would you like to take a ride now?
I can't get your love, I can't get satisfaction
Oh, little girl, psychotic reaction

This is, in summary, the meteor that sparked the psychedelic light of the entire 1967.
The entire album and especially the leading single that gives it its title (PSYCHOTIC REACTION) is a great example of psycho beat.

Dirty, raw, yet very catchy at the same time, these Count Five are really cool.
The little panning tricks are noteworthy, listening on headphones literally makes your head spin!
