Controlled Bleeding is an American experimental music group formed in Boston in 1978 by Paul Lemos, known for a vast, genre-hopping discography and the distinctive vocals of Joe Papa.

Originated in Boston and later associated with New York; celebrated for blending industrial-noise, ambient, gothic and many other styles; critically noted albums include Body Samples, Knees and Bones, Music for Gilded Chambers and Songs From the Drain.

Two DeBaser reviews celebrate Controlled Bleeding's restless, genre-hopping discography and Joe Papa's distinctive operatic vocals. Music for Gilded Chambers is described as liturgical, crystalline and monumental. Songs From the Drain is presented as a rich mid-period compendium spanning the group's explored styles. Both reviews emphasize experimentation and emotional intensity.

For:Fans of experimental, industrial and avant-garde music; listeners who appreciate genre-blending and intense vocal performances.

Controlled Bleeding, a perpetually schizophrenic entity, always in search of something else, moves within vast sonic territories, stirring and confusing the deep and murky waters in which they constantly revel.

The marble structure of each piece crumbles into fragile and intimate crystalline melodic constructions, the sound appears overburdened, vital and tense, without falling into traps such as excessive smoothness and sonic clarity, the austere, cold, and wonderful pairing that opens and closes the work, "Confirmation (Part One)" and "Confirmation (Part Two) - Germany" towers sculptural and triumphant, never before in this album has Joe Papa's mighty operatic voice been more of a protagonist, at its absolute interpretative peak.
