If we talk about Yes, we also talk about international success, thousands of records sold, and albums that have made music history.
If we talk about Yes, we also talk about Chris Squire, their legendary first bassist.
If we talk about Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood, we also talk about Conspiracy.
Conspiracy is the collaboration between these two renowned figures in the music world, with the support of drummer Jay Schellen.
Specifically, the musical category of this trio is called "Art Rock," a progressive branch that pumps a good base of popular into its roots.
On first listening, I found this album fantastic and engaging, but over time, I discovered it's a "use and throw away". Initially, it captivates mainly due to the sounds that are certainly outside the ones we usually listen to. But the flaw of this album is that it is trivially catchy, it is not exciting, it does not convey anything. A quality I find in the tracks is their diversity.
"Conspiracy", the opening track, does not speak to me in any special way, "Cosfess" I must say, I find very beautiful, with the bass part being fundamental in this song and the one that follows; "New World" like "There Is No End" and "Premonitions" are nice but nothing more. "1/2 A World Away" is a strange track, I particularly like it for the chord progression used for the intro and the final variation. "The Wheel" truly deserves little, even if technically, we are at very high levels. The flaw of many progressive bands is the desire to do something increasingly complex by creating tracks over ten minutes long, see "The Unknown", the final track. Gosh! what a bore... 11 minutes and 30 of pointless complexity.
In conclusion, I believe that this album is suitable for a very wide audience thanks to its often light sounds, but I (and I think all attentive listeners) want something more than a little tune to relax my ears, I seek emotions and not a catchy mishmash.
