This review was written spontaneously during the first listen of the album... I usually think it's better to assimilate an album through many listens before judging it, but here we are facing something more...
Giovanni Lindo Ferretti's voice has never driven me wild, and especially the CCCP period doesn't excite me. However, lately, thanks to the reviews read on this site, I have approached C.S.I., finding "Ko Do Mondo" and "In Quiete" two very beautiful albums.
Yesterday, while talking to a colleague, to whom I was recommending the listen of Litfiba's live "Aprite I Vostri Occhi," it came up that this unknown album existed to me. It is a live recorded on October 5, 1996, in the Church of San Domenico in Alba in honor of Beppe Fenoglio, one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.
The recording is divided into three parts, "La terra", "La guerra", and "Una questione privata". The band is truly in a state of grace, and they deliver rearranged versions that are nothing short of stunning. Ferretti's voice merges with Ginevra Di Marco's, creating a perfect balance. The emotional charge of all the songs is huge, and surely those who were present did not forget that day very easily...
Unfortunately, the album was voluntarily put out of production in May 1998, only four months after its release, and indeed on eBay, it is found at astronomical prices. If you have the opportunity, listen to it, even if you have never appreciated the band, it is truly a gem, certainly one of the best Italian live albums of the last twenty years.
It is necessary to be careful to be masters of oneself / My small homeland behind the Gothic Line / Knows how to choose the side to stand on.
It's not an economic issue, it's a private matter.
