An American psychedelic/noise-rock band led by Ethan Miller, noted for loud, echoplex-heavy sound, extended improvisation and releases on labels including Alternative Tentacles and Sub Pop.

Ethan Miller is identified in reviews as the band's primary creative force. The self-titled debut was initially released in limited vinyl and later re-released by Alternative Tentacles. The band released Blue Cathedral on Sub Pop. Reviews repeatedly highlight live/effected use of echoplex, heavy psychedelia and noise elements.

DeBaser reviews describe Comets on Fire as a loud, ferocious American psychedelic/noise-rock band led by Ethan Miller. Critics praise their self-titled debut, Blue Cathedral and Field Recordings From the Sun for intense improvisation and heavy use of echo/echoplex effects. Reviews mix ecstatic enthusiasm with occasional reservations about softer moments.

I haven't been this excited about a band since the DMZ stunned me at first listen.

If a critique can be made of the ensemble, it's that they have, in some instances, softened the sharp edges that characterized previous works just a bit too much, especially in "Lucifer's Memory", a somewhat mawkish ballad comparable (to be kind) to "Miss X" by MC5 or (to be harsh) to a failed crooner playing in a suburban piano bar.
