9:15 PM we're at the first concert of Il Violino e la selce, tonight the Coldplay are playing preceded by Turin Brakes and The Coral. As always for a small town like Fano, a concert in the square turns into a social happening. Many familiar faces are around, there's this person, there's that one, and even those who said they wouldn't come are here. There aren't many people yet, perhaps many, knowing that the two "support" groups will each have a mini concert, will arrive later.

9:30 PM Turin Brakes flood the square with music. By the third piece played by the band, Cleo smiles at me, impeccable in her "carefully curated concert" look (she wouldn't wear the first thing she finds even to go to the grocer). We need to delve deeper into David, she tells me, not bad these Turin Brakes. The sounds are indeed intriguing, and the singer has a really nice voice.

After a brief pause, The Coral arrive, immediately drawing a tender smile. They are very young... they quickly start to get heavy with the guitars and get wild. Californian punk? We certainly praise them for their friendliness and enthusiasm, especially when they all take off their shirts and their hairless chests emphasize their youth even more... after an hour or so, though, we begin to wonder if we will have to shoot them in the back to get them off stage.

11:30 PM The Coral have finished playing about half an hour ago and people begin to lose a bit of patience, the technicians keep tinkering around, and here they come, Chris Martin eclipses all the other band members according to the friends, the guitars of "Politik" that open the concert make us quickly forgive the wait a little bit. They jump a bit from "Parachutes" to "A Rush of Blood...", people appreciate it, but no one seems that involved. They are good, Martin moves a lot on stage and when he plays the piano, he's definitely a charismatic character, the pieces are still catchy and well played. Everything is exactly as I expected. I didn’t expect to get emotional and I don’t get emotional, I didn’t expect this band to enter my top ten and it won’t. 1:00 AM Coldplay say goodbye after the encore, we head home strictly by foot, a sign of the lackluster enthusiasm that characterized the concert participation is that no one wants to go have a drink, to comment or share impressions and emotions as we usually do. 1 hour and 20 minutes of well-played music, nothing more.
