THE REVIEW

It should be noted that the band was discovered by Fred Durst like Staind and Puddle of Mudd, but their "post-grunge," if we want to call it that, is quite different from the others. Inside is the suffering of frontman Scooter Ward, making clear that his music is crafted not for money (any reference is purely coincidental), but for themselves.

  1. "Go away": After a whisper, it starts with a big riff that seems to have come from the minds of Head & Munky. The rhythm stops, and in the background, you hear Scooter's voice (his tone is very reminiscent of Eddie Vedder in his formative years). The song is very intense as the rest of the album will be.
  2. "Give": First single of the band, and the only song on the album where the guitars and post-grunge sounds take the lead, but behind the chorus, there's a very industrial arpeggio followed by the frontman's voice, which is very melodic in this case.
  3. "Ugly": An acoustic track with an arpeggio that goes hand in hand with the vocalist, where the chorus seems to make the song appear sung by a certain Layne Staley haunted by electronic sounds inviting him to get fed up. Among the best.
  4. "Everyone Dies": From start to finish, a pounding bass prevails around which various distorted sounds revolve, followed in the end by Scooter Ward, who completes a very experimental song.
  5. "Strip her down": 'Don't you want me to strip for you?' That's how "strip her down" begins with a female voice that seems to come from a nightclub, but instead, there's little happiness in this semi-acoustic track.
  6. "Insane": Among the best as well, the track begins with a tormented and endless guitar verse accompanying the lyrics of the man who guides it in the most dramatic chorus of the album: 'I have gone Insane'.
  7. "Goodbye cruel world": It's not a Pink Floyd cover! Just a simple outburst from Scooter Ward who wrecks his voice to match the lowered and thick guitars that almost seem to be breaking the stereo.
  8. "Serial killer": Another song that aims to hit the listener's mental state, highlighting the hypnotic singing of the frontman.
  9. "Superstar": An entirely acoustic track with a heart-wrenching bass, inviting people to believe in their own identity and not be swayed by an hypocritical society.
  10. "The switch": The only one that didn't thrill me all that much; not bad but a bit too repetitive.
  11. "Makes her sick": Here we come to the last: for me, the best. Rhythm fired up by a very engaging drum, but this is not all: guitar and voice are truly frightening, the track is entirely sick and tormented. But the best part is the chorus: Scooter Ward complains and moans like an innocent child. Spectacular!

I recommend the album to people who have a grunge heart but at the same time adhere to some evolution of the genre. Moreover, the album requires more than one listen to be understood, and I highly recommend reading the lyrics. It has been underrated probably because at its time it went unnoticed. Not recommended for Nickelback fans, sorry if I bored you. GOODBYE!

01   Go Away (04:41)

02   Give (03:48)

I'll give you everything but me
Everyone around you twisted fame
I can't control you and your look
You silly freak, you super fuck

I can't believe whose side you're on
Everyone around you layed with dogs
Like a bitter pill that's lost its taste
I'll take the whole thing anyway

I don't love you, you don't love me, well I can imagine
Like a little thief without a key, well I can imagine
Can imagine

I'll take the world, blow it away
Send all your hopes to outerspace
Well i can't control you and your look
You silly freak, you super fuck

I can't believe whose side you're on
Everyone around you layed with dogs
Like a bitter pill that's lost its taste
I'll take the whole thing anyway

I don't love you, you don't love me, well I can imagine
Like a little thief without a key, well I can imagine
Like a hurricane that lost its speed, well I can imagine
Like a liquored mind i've gone insane, well I can imagine

(Some people tend to think that your just using your imagination,
But I think you're one fucked up individual.
Come to think of it, you are one fucked up individual.)

I give all that I am, better not make me

I don't love you, you don't love me, well I can imagine
Like a little thief without a key, well I can imagine
Like a hurricane that lost its speed, well I can imagine
Like a liquored mind I've gone insane, well I can imagine

Can't imagine, can't imagine

03   Ugly (04:14)

All the world loves things of beauty and intrigue
These two things I've never had one
Born in this old skin. I'm to sick I can't win
I've lived with this damage too long
My eyes can't behold it, I cannot control this
This feeling that's left in my heart
I've never done no wrong, I don't deserve these bones
Please burn up this sin when I'm gone

And I said that this is ugly to me
The world is ugly to me
You are ugly to me
And I am ugly to me

I haven't become all I want to be
I haven't become anything I need to be
I haven't become all I want to be (Suffocate with me)
I haven't become anything I need to be
(Suffer)

Why can't you look, why can't you look at me
See what I see
Why can't you feel, why can't you feel like me
Feel what I feel
Why can't you hurt, why can't you hurt like me
Taste the pain I feel
Why must I die, why must I die for you
When it's the ugly truth

Well it's ugly
It's making me painless

Why can't you look, why can't you look at me
See what I see
Why can't you feel, why can't you feel like me
Feel what I feel
Why can't you hurt, why can't you hurt like me
Taste the pain I feel
Why must I die, why must I die for you
When it's the ugly truth

Well it's ugly

I can take another bet, she loves to fuck, I must confess
Everything is so abused, the little things she puts me through
I can't stand to be insane, you little fuck you're so arranged
All the pain is nearly dead, that's in my thoughts, and in your bed
I can't change well guess who, came to kill the love here
Every time you fuck guess who, came to kill the love here
I won't scream I'll take your bet, she loves to fuck I must confess
Everything is so abused, the little things she puts me through
I can't stand to be insane, you little fuck you're so arranged
All the pain is nearly dead, that’s in my thoughts, and in your bed
Can't kill monsters!
